Join me fishing in Iceland or Ireland.
Iceland offers some of the worlds best fishing for Atlantic Salmon. Fish private waters with little or no competition for Brown Trout, Seatrout and Arctic Char. Char are my favorites...so similar to our brook trout as to be virtually indistinguishable from them. Char are often found in the shallower waters at the end of salmon pools. I once stood in one spot and caught three 22" + char as the guide jokingly urged me to "quit fooling around and fish the salmon water." Iceland also has excellent fishing for Brown Trout. I once visited a lodge where the log book showed several trout over five lbs. caught each day on dry flies. This lodge is on a river that is arguably the best brown trout water in the world. With the present favorable exchange rate this type of fishing is not prohibitably expensive...it ain't cheap but the cost is less than half what it was in the recent past. Time on these rivers, if available, must be booked well in advance...usually the fall before.
The Ireland trip is for those who wish to mix trout and/or Salmon fishing with touring. The Irish have a saying; "the good lord must have surely loved time...for he made plenty of it." If you fish intensely and are not fully satisfied with anything less than trophy fish...this trip is not for you. But if you would like to mix your fishing with visits to quaint villages, seascapes, historic and prehistoric sites...castles and stone circles, then you will enjoy this trip. Cap it of with lively pubs, traditional music and excellent food and you have a vacation that memories are made of.
Trips to Iceland are held in June and again in August: In June a group of 6 - 10 may be accommodated, a river will be rented for a week and the group would have exclusive rights to more than 20 miles of river. In August two or three anglers may fish a number of different rivers for a variety of species.
Trips to Ireland are held in May and again in September:
May is the time of the renown Mayfly Hatch and a trip to Lough Corrib, dapping mayflies, may be combined with a few days of salmon fishing on a private river.
